Comhairle nan Eilean Siar PRESS RELEASE 28August 2001 For Use: Immediately | |
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar's Housing Committee today agreed pilot proposals for an £64k Emergency Small Repairs Service scheme which is aimed at making it easier for older people and others with particular needs to access grants for small but essential repairs.
A report before the Housing Committee today highlighted the fact that some elderly people may put off undertaking essential repairs or commit to additional works in order to meet minimum requirements for grant approval. The aim of the new scheme is to deliver a small repairs service to households living in owner occupied or crofting tenure housing.
The service will be targeted at those who would otherwise lack the resources or support necessary to have such repairs carried out.
Vice-Chairman of Housing Cllr. Norman Macleod, said: "This scheme fits well with the already successful Care and Repair Scheme and will assist people who because of their age or particular needs, would otherwise have difficulties in ensuring their homes are well maintained and safe."
The scheme has been designed by Western Isles Care and Repair and will be introduced
on 1 September this year.
