Go Ahead For New Sports Centre Design

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar's Arts and Leisure Committee today agreed to proceed to the design of a £6.5m sports facility in Stornoway to replace the existing Nicolson Lewis Sports Centre.

Design architects have been given the go ahead to proceed with the design to tender stage and applications will be made for matching funding.

Chairman of Arts and Leisure, Cllr. Alasdair Macrae, said:

"The development of a new sports centre in Stornoway is a key task for the Comhairle and it is important for future generations that we do our utmost to secure a first class sport and leisure facility. By proceeding with the new build option we will be doing so with none of the inconvience for the public and schoolpupils associated with redeveloping the existing Nicolson Lewis Centre.

This will be an important asset for the community and schools throughout Lewis."
