A training centre for courses in boat building maintenance and repair is to be established at Manish Community Workshop in Harris, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar's Arts and Leisure Committee agreed today.
The centre is currently managed by a local voluntary committee and owned by the Comhairle. Harris Development Ltd. has made representations to develop the facility as a training centre in boat building, maintenance and repair skills.
Chairman of Arts and Leisure, Cllr. Alasdair Macrae, said: "This centre will provide valuable training in boat building skills and will also provide employment opportunities in Manish."
The Committee agreed to award a grant of £4,000 to Harris Development
to establish the training project from the Community Grants Scheme.
