Comhairle nan Eilean Siar PRESS RELEASE 05 October 2001 For Use: Immediately | |
Workers from Comhairle nan Eilean Siar are inspecting stonework at Stornoway Town Hall after a 6 inch high stone moulding fell this morning, landing on a bench below. At this stage it is believed frost damage was responsible for the stonework coming loose.
As well as the immediate checking being carried out, a stone mason is being calle din to carry out a comprehensive survey.
A spokesperson for the Comhairle said: "We are grateful that there were
no injuries and we have responded promptly to check the stonework in the interests
of public safety. Our priority is to ensure that there is no prospect of any
further collapse of stonework and a comprehensive survey will be carried out
as soon as possible".
