Comhairle Welcomes DTI Sub-Sea Study

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has welcomed the DTI announcement today of a study to look into the feasibility of a sub-sea cable along the west side of the UK.

Chairman of the Comhairle’s Working Group on Renewable Energy, Cllr. Donald M Mackay, said, “This is a very welcome development. It has been apparent from an early stage that overcoming the problems of linking into the national grid is a key factor if the islands’ renewable energy resources are to be maximised and such a cable could be of enormous benefit in allowing the islands to export electricity.
There is a series of studies now underway relating to the renewable energy potential in the islands and I am optimistic about the beneficial prospects for the Western Isles from this developing industry.”
