Western Isles Alternative & Renewable Energy Partnership Web-Site Launched

The multi-agency Western Isles renewable energy group, WIAREP, have this week launched a dedicated web-site. The site will act as a ‘signpost’ to other Energy related sites of interest as well as providing information on funding and how community related developments can take off. As the weeks progress the site is set to expand and be as comprehensive as possible.

WIAREP Chairman David Currie said: “The renewable energy potential of the Western Isles is very much in the news these days. WIAREP was specifically set up with the aim of developing renewable and alternative energy projects in the Western Isles, particularly at a community level. The web-site is an important first step in giving keeping people access to relevant information.”

The Steering Group of WIAREP has representatives from the following organisations: The Royal Bank of Scotland, Tighean Innse Gall, Scottish Natural Heritage, Transco, North of Scotland Water Authority, Western Isles Enterprise, Lews Castle College (UHI), Stornoway Trust, Western Isles Chamber of Commerce, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar and Scottish and Southern Energy.

The web-site, designed by Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s I.T. Unit, can be accessed at www.cne-siar.gov.uk/wiarep
