Community Clean Ups

The Comhairle encourages local community groups to take part in its clean up campaign which involves voluntary organisations cleaning up their neighbourhoods and villages.  The main aim of the campaign is to increase public awareness of the problems associated with litter and to encourage a more positive attitude towards littering, the environment and the handling of rubbish and waste.

To help promote the clean ups and encourage groups to participate, the Comhairle offers sponsorship up to £150, depending on the size of area to be cleaned, the amount of people taking part and the amount of rubbish and recyclable materials collected.  They also provide refuse sacks, recycling sacks and gloves to be used throughout the clean up and if needed, a skip may be provided at the requested location to contain all the waste gathered.

This is a very successful scheme, which helps community groups raise funds whilst helping to keep our Islands free of litter.  If you know of an area in need of a tidy, please contact the Waste Aware Team to request an application form for your group.
