Waste Aware Host Environmental Fair in the Uists

September

The Waste Aware Team held an Environmental Fair in Talla an Iochdar, South Uist, on 27th and 28th September 2006. The Fair consisted of a two day event for schools and an Open Evening for the public.

There were six environmental stalls at the Fair manned by SEPA, Plant Life, the Council Biodiversity Officer, Scottish Water, Solus Studio Glass and Waste Aware. The five Uist schools which attended the Fair learnt about the importance of not wasting water, the important role plants have in our environment, how glass is recycled, SEPA’s role in environmental protection, the reasons for the new organic bin collection and about the diverse wildlife of the Western Isles.

At the Open Evening the experts were on hand at the stalls to give out information about the different environmental projects and developments in the Western Isles and to answer questions.
