Mrs Reid’s S1 class visited the Waste Transfer Station at Market Stance for a guided tour. This first year class have been looking at environmental issues in school and have also been involved with Eco-school activities so were interested to see how their waste is sorted and processed once it leaves their bin.
They were given a tour round the weighbridge office and the transfer hall where they could see the balers and ask the recycling operatives questions. They were given hints and tips on how to improve recycling – for example squashing their steel cans so that the aluminium cans don’t get stuck inside them and squashing their plastic bottles so they take up less room in the Recycling Banks.
They finished their visit by getting weighed on the weighbridge |
