Registration Service

Registration Service

Local authorities in Scotland have a statutory duty to provide a service for the registration of births, stillbirths, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships.

Our registrars record these events (and others such as change of names) and conduct civil ceremonies. They also issue birth, death and marriage certificates.

You can email the Registration Service at:

or Contact Us by phone.

Office Opening Hours and Services

Appointment System

Our Registration Offices operate an appointment system.

Tell Us Once

As part of the registration service we are offering the free Tell Us Once service which can help you inform council and government departments about a birth or a death.

This means you won't have to send a copy of the birth or death certificate in the post, as we can contact organisations that need to know on your behalf or give you a reference number so that you can notify them online or by calling a Freephone number.

When you are booking an appointment to register a birth or death please let us know if you wish to use this service. More information, including what you will need to bring with you is available via the Tell Us Once page.
