The course is based on ‘Abair E’ and extension material and revolves around the four main language outcomes – Listening, Talking, Reading and Writing.  It aims to improve Gaelic skills in a coherent and meaningful way and Learners should progress in their ability to …………….

 

§         Convey and understand personal information ……………name, age, place of residence, family and friends, homes, pets, hobbies, possessions objects etc.

 

§         Convey and understand general information  …….  School information, local and national place-names, time, food, money, work, sport and recreation, animals, travel etc.

 

§         Give and respond to instructions and directions i.e. class, school, home, community.

 

§         Make and respond to requests

 

§         Talk about and understand expressions of feelings and opinions, likes, dislikes and preferences.

 

§         Describe and understand descriptions of people, things, places and experiences, past and present.

·         vowels and consonants

·         aspirations

·         noun gender

·         noun changes

·         plurals

·         prepositional pronouns

·         regular verb patterns

·         introduction to irregular verbs

·         adjectives and comparisons

 

Pupils in Gaelic Learners classes vary considerably in their ability to communicate in the language.  Because of this they are encouraged to develop from their own language skill base and to set their own personal targets.  Assessment tasks cover the four language skills and pupils are issued with planned homework.
