School BoardFunctions School Boards were introduced in 1988 as part of the Government’s policy of encouraging parental involvement in schools. They comprise of parent, teachers and co-opted members with parents in the majority. Co-opted members may be drawn from local business or the community. School Board members are involved in determining the overall policies, objectives and ethos at the school. Boards have a special duty to promote good relationships between the school, its parents and the community and also form a channel for the flow of information between these groups. Iochdar School Board has been running since 2001. School Boards have certain formal duties, powers and rights. School Board members are involved in:

receiving reports from the Head Teacher, or her
representative. The School Board meets two or three times per school term. The Head Teacher and the Local Councillors are in attendance at meetings. Representatives of the Education Department may also be invited to attend meetings. All meetings are open and parents are welcome to attend. Details of the meeting times and minutes of meetings may be found on the School Board notice-board which is situated in the reception area.
