Care at Home Service


The Care at Home Service is part of the Community Care Section of the Comhairle.  Its mangers and the staff employed are accountable to the Integrated Joint Board.

The Care at Home Service is also registered with the Care Inspectorate.  The Care Inspectorate registers and inspects the Care at Home Service, taking into account the National Care Standards published by Scottish Ministers.

About the Home Care Service

The CnES Home Care Service organises and provides care for people living at home who may need help with Personal Care.

The service employs Care and Support Assistants who are organised in teams based on defined geographical areas.  The team normally attends to the needs of service users in a specific location, for example, the Barvas to Ness area. 

The Care at Home Service is managed by a team on Care and Support Supervisors located through out the Western Isles.

Aims of the Home Care Service

  • Enable people to remain safely at home for as long as possible
  • Support people on discharge from hospital to assist with their recovery
  • Offer support and care to enhance the dignity of service users
  • Prevent unnecessary admissions to hospital
  • Support family and other unpaid carers
  • To meet service users assessed needs in a flexible and responsive way
  • Promote service users independence and allow privacy
  • Support service users and their family within their community
  • Work effectively in partnership with other agencies in the public, private or voluntary sector to ensure that service users receive good quality care.

Home Care Staff Training

All CnES Home Care Staff are required to attend induction training covering all aspects of their role.  The induction and refreasher training consists of:

  • Moving and Handling
  • Personal Care
  • Adult Support and Protection
  • Dementia Training
  • Safety Awareness
  • Health and Safety
  • Infection Control
  • First Aid

All CnES staff will be required to be part of the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme

The Care and Support Supervisors work from 7am-7pm 7 days per week and provide an on call service from 7pm-10pm. They can be contacted on 01851 822833 out with office hours. In an emergency Faire can be contacted between 10pm and 7am on 01851 701702.
