Stornoway Regeneration

Stornoway Regeneration Group

Formed in 2004 under the Community Planning Partnership, the membership of the group is Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Western Isles Enterprise, Stornoway Port Authority, Stornoway Amenity Trust, Stornoway Trust, the Local Housing Strategy, Western Isles Chamber of Commerce, Stornoway Historical Society, Lewis and Harris Buildings Preservation Trust and Lews Castle Trust.

The group’s vision is to:

“Enhance the vitality, viability and vibrancy of Stornoway by regenerating the environment of the town and its surrounding area, focusing physical change on the needs of people, our built heritage and business development.”

As determined by the Community Planning Partnership, a Comhairle nan Eilean Siar representative chairs the group and the Comhairle provides officer support for the administration of the group.

The group also has a role in advising on priorities and should aim to establish clear lines of responsibility for particular projects. The group’s work will inevitably be one of ‘process’ rather than a single defined outcome. The ongoing process of partnership, co-ordination and forward planning is therefore the main focus of the groups’ work.
