Breakwater core and armouring being placed
In the fortnight between November 25 and December 8, progress continued on the completion of the roadbed, the breakwater and the berthing facilities at Aird Mhor.
The breakdown of progress is as follows:
Roadway:
- Filling embankments in the approach road was approximately 95 per cent
complete. - Excavation of services trench continued
- Excavation of drainage ditch continued
Breakwater:
Slipway concreting is complete
The core and armouring was being placed to finished level working back from the end. Overall, the breakwater was between 90 and 95 per cent complete by volume.
Terminal area:
- Slipway concreting was completed.
- Timber Alignment / Berthing Structure: 5 of 14 concrete bases poured.
- Prefabbing of the timber alignment structure started.
- The temporary sheet piles have been extracted.
There were four tracked excavators and two articulated dump trucks on site.
Personnel: 19 total of which 9 are resident in the Western Isles
