Work in progress on approach road
Drilling and blasting is underway along the route of the new road which will link Barra's communities with the new ferry port at Aird Mhor.Progress between 3rd September and 15th September included:
Four more blasts - two along the approach road itself and two in the rock source to the south side of the approach road.
Drilling and blasting in the approach road is approximately 40 per cent complete.
Rock from the rock source is being placed in the breakwater and the slipway.
The breakwater at low level is 33 per cent complete by volume

Slipway filling to working platform level is 20 per cent complete
There are three tracked excavators and two articulated dump trucks on site.
One of the excavators has gone back to the mainland but the long reach excavator has returned.
The total number of personnel involved is 15, 40 per cent resident in the Western Isles
Weather: changeable - showers, heavy rain, light breeze, strong winds, sunny spells throughout whole period.
