Cooling Towers Registration

Licence Summary

If you are in control of a non-domestic premises in the Western Isles which has a cooling tower or evaporative condenser – also known as ‘notifiable devices’ – situated on the premises, it is a legal requirement for you to inform the Comhairle.  The regulations are designed to control Legionella and help with investigations of Legionnaires' disease (Opens in a new window or downloads a file).

How to Register

Applicants should complete the registration form available below.

There is no fee to register.

There is no renewal procedure as registration is a one-off process.  However you must inform us if a cooling tower becomes redundant or dismantled, or of any changes to the details you provided within one month of the change.

What happens next?

Our target for processing an application is within 28 days. 

Please note that the processing target period (28 days) only begins on receipt of a fully completed registration application and acknowledgement of such by the Comhairle’s Consumer and Environmental Services team.
