This Consultation Survey is open to children, young people, parents and carers, and service providers and is a chance for residents to shape the future of their local communities. We want to hear your views on how accessible, inclusive and varied local play opportunities are, and how they can be improved for all children and young people.
The Comhairle is required to assess the sufficiency of play opportunities in its area for children in preparing an evidence report by Section 16D of Town and Country Planning (Scotland) Act 1997, as amended. This Play Sufficiency Assessment will inform the Council’s forthcoming Outer Hebrides Local Development Plan (LDP) - a key land use planning document that sets out land use proposals and planning policies intended to guide development and inform planning decisions.
The Outdoor Play Spaces Survey will evaluate the quality, location, and range of outdoor play facilities in the Outer Hebrides. The findings will help shape future investment in play infrastructure. To support the assessment, the Comhairle is seeking feedback from young people, parents and carers, community councils, about the current provision of play spaces and how it can be improved.
The feedback gathered will directly inform HebPlaY – Play Sufficiency Assessment for the Outer Hebrides, which will be published later in 2025.
This is part of the ongoing work towards forming the new Local Development Plan. The plan will set out strategy and proposals for the use of land and buildings in the Outer Hebrides for the next decade.
This consultation and survey will be open for comments until 29 August 2025.
In due course we will submit the HebPlaY - Play Sufficiency Assessment as part of the evidence we have collated to inform the next Local Development Plan. Please sign up to our mailing list to be kept informed of this, and future consultations.
Additionally, please see our Development Plan Scheme which is our annual statement setting out details of who we will consult and methods of engagement at each stage of the plan preparation.
