Connect and Collect

In line with Scottish Government regulations, libraries in the Western Isles aim to follow a phased reopening process to ensure the safety of all our patrons and staff. Initially, this will involve reduced opening hours at some branch libraries who will offer a Connect & Collect service.  Measures will be put in place to allow for a gradual return to our normal service as soon as possible and in line with national guidance.

Connect & Collect is now available at Liniclate, Castlebay, Tarbert and Stornoway libraries.

How Does It Work

Get in touch with your local library – by phone, email or through completing the online Connect and Collect Form (Opens in a new window or downloads a file). You can either place holds on some items through the library catalogue and/or let us know what kinds of books / audio books / DVDs /  authors you enjoy, and library staff will then put a collection of 6 items together for you.

When collecting your items from your library, we request that you wear face coverings when entering the library, sanitise your hands and observe physical distancing at all times.

You will be able to return your library books at the same time!

Selecting Books and Other Items

We do understand!  It is not the same having someone else select books for you and we completely get that you would much rather be browsing the shelves and selecting your own books. But please bear with us.  We promise that we will try our best to select the kind of books and authors you enjoy.  Feel free to place requests online for items though please remember that they may not all be available straight away, and tell us as much as you can about the types of books you enjoy. That will help us get the right kind of books to you.

We are happy to select items for whole family.
