Internet and Computers

All our libraries have computers with internet access and word processing software which are available to all. They can be used to email, search the web, study or write letters and essays; we just ask all users to abide by the libraries’ policy on Computers and Internet Use in Western Isles Libraries (415.9kB) (Opens in a new window or downloads a file).

Children under 16 years of age must have their parent’s or carers’ permission to access the internet.

Websense Internet Filter Categories

(Category List (61.6kB))

Websense software is used to filter out undesirable websites.  On occasion, perfectly acceptable sites can sometimes be blocked.  If this does happen, please contact a member of staff, as it might be possible to make an application to unblock the site in question.

Computer Classes

The Comhairle’s Adult Education department often holds computer classes at Stornoway Library.  There are also a number of online courses available to those wanting to learn more about emailing and searching the internet.
