What is ‘Slàinte Mhath!’?
‘Slainte Math!’ is a reduced price access scheme covering all Comhairle operated sports facilities across the Outer Hebrides.
How much does it cost?
The cost is £15 per month for individuals and £20 per month for families.
Are there any concession rates?
Yes, these are all based on your ability to pay. If you qualify for a range of income based benefits, families will pay £15 and individuals £10. You will also pay £10 if you are in full time education. These income based benefits are Job Seekers Allowance, Income Support, Skillseekers Allowance, Pension Credits, Housing Benefit and Council Tax Benefit.
What qualifies as a ‘family’ as part of the scheme?
We define a family as two people, with or without children who live at the same address. Similarly, a lone parent with children living at the same address would also qualify as a family. All young people under 18 living at the same address are also included..
What does the scheme include?
The scheme includes unlimited access to all Comhairle sports facilities. Depending on where you live this could include Pool, Gym, Games Hall, Track, etc. It also includes any classes run by Comhairle staff, for example Aquafit etc. In addition, each member will be allocated two free blocks of swimming lessons per year, where available. These will be allocated on a ‘first come – first served’ basis and we would ask for understanding from customers as there is likely to be very high demand in the early stages of the scheme.
It will also include a 50% discount on Motiv8 Holiday Programme activities that operate throughout the year.
The scheme does not cover block bookings for large areas such as football pitches etc or activities delivered by third parties in our facilities – for example, clubs or Highland Dancing etc.
How do I pay?
All payments will be by Direct Debit from your bank account (Download the Application form and Direct Debit Mandate attached below). You can join and leave the scheme at any time. However, if you do cancel your direct debit you cannot rejoin for twelve months. You would then pay our standard entry prices to use facilities.
Do I have to sign up to the scheme to use sports facilities?
No. You can ‘pay as you go’ if you prefer. There will also be concession rates for those on income based benefits and students in full time education.
When will the scheme start?
We plan to roll out the scheme in January 2010.
How will I be able to prove I am a ‘‘Slàinte Mhath!’ member?
You will need a ‘smartcard’ with a built in microchip to access any Comhairle operated sports facility as a ‘Slainte Math!’ member. We are encouraging users to apply for a National Entitlement Card or NEC, which has this technology built in.
- If you are aged between 11 – 25, you can apply for a ‘Young Scot’ card.
- If you are between 26 and 59, you will also be able to apply for an NEC card. There will be more information available shortly on making this as easy as possible.
- If you are over 60, you can apply for a Concessionary Travel Card.
If you already have one of these cards, they will work straight away with our new system.
We will issue our own CnES ‘Smartcard’ to 8 – 10 year olds who are old enough to use facilities independently – going swimming etc.
You will also need a ‘smartcard’ to access areas of sports facilities which require an induction – for example, the gym or climbing wall.
If you don’t have an NEC Card at present, we will be able to advise you how to apply for one. In the meantime, we will issue you with a temporary ‘smartcard’ to allow you to access all facilities.
Why is it so inexpensive?
The Comhairle has made a commitment to trying to make our communities more active. In the long term this will have significant benefits including confronting some of the common health problems that have a serious impact on peoples lives. These include heart disease, diabetes etc. – the risk factors for these and many other health issues can be proven to be reduced by increasing your physical activity levels.
Do I have to fill in a form to join?
Yes. Direct Debit forms will be available shortly from all Comhairle sports facilities.
