Update on PPE

Following the updated Scottish Government Advice last night, Thursday 2nd April, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is in the process of reviewing this latest guidance and developing a protocol as to how the guidance can be implemented in the Western Isles.

All services which are registered with the Care Inspectorate, that are providing health and care support and have an urgent need for PPE after having fully explored local supply routes/discussions with NHS Board colleagues, can contact a triage centre run by NHS National Services for Scotland (NHS NSS). The helpline will be open (8am - 8pm) 7 days a week. The following contact details will direct providers to the NHS NSS triage centre for social care PPE:

e-Mmail: support@socialcare-nhs.info
Phone: 0300 303 3020

Jack Libby, Head of Community Care, said: “The Comhairle has now received its second delivery of aprons, gloves and facemasks and is in the process of calculating the likely demand moving forward.

“It is important to state that, similar to the national situation, only through complete compliance with the guidance, where only appropriate and prescribed use of PPE, and particularly face-masks occurs, will we be able to maximise the chances of our PPE stock matching the need for PPE. We are working closely with our colleagues in the Health Board and the 3rd Sector to ensure we maximise the effectiveness of PPE across the Health and Social Care workforce.

“The Comhairle remains committed to keeping the workforce and the wider community informed and updated of any developments at the earliest opportunity in what has been a rapidly changing situation.”
