Comhairle Agrees Significant Investment in Stornoway Primary
At today’s meeting of full Council, Comhairle Members agreed to confirm a major investment of £1.95m into a new sports and recreation facility at Stornoway Primary School which marks a firm commitment to improve facilities at the school.
The funding will secure the provision of a large sports hall, proposed to be four badminton courts in size, with associated storage and changing facilities. The development is expected to be constructed on a part of the playing fields adjacent to the existing school building.
Chairman of the Education, Sport and Children’s Services Committee, Paul Finnegan, said:
“The decision taken today reaffirms the Comhairle’s commitment to work with the school, its parents and other stakeholders to progress this project as quickly as possible and aim for prompt commencement of construction later this year. It is also worth noting that the £1.95M investment is a significant increase on the initial £400k Multi-use Games Area which had initially been proposed. We now look forward to seeing this development progressing and enhancing the educational experience for both pupils and teachers in the school for years to come.”
