Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has expressed deep sadness at the news of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II who passed away earlier today, Thursday 8th September, at the age of 96.
Comhairle Convener, Kenny Macleod, said: “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Royal Family at this sad time. The Queen visited the Western Isles on three official visits, in 1956, in 1979 to open the Comhairle nan Eilean Siar building and in 2002 for the Golden Jubilee. She also visited the Western Isles on many other occasions, with her family on cruises aboard the royal yacht Britannia. The Queen had a very special place in the hearts of the people of these islands.”
An update on local arrangements will be provided tomorrow morning.
