The book, which will be made available for sale, will detail the main milestones, successes and challenges of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar in the past 50 years. Featuring contributions from several key individuals, the book will not only reflect on the past but also look forward to what the next 50 years in the Western Isles might look like.

The Comhairle would be grateful to hear from anyone who has photographs that illustrate important aspects of the last 50 years of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar. If you have any relevant photos, please contact the Comhairle’s archive service: archives@cne-siar.gov.uk.

To support the costs of producing the book the Comhairle has approached businesses with advertising opportunities. The public are reminded that any individual with an interest in supporting the book can donate £5 or £10 to the costs, using the payment form on the Comhairle website. Anyone who takes up the opportunity will have their name included in the acknowledgements section of the book.

Cllr Kenny Macleod, Convener of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, said: 

“It is highly appropriate that we have a proportionate event and a book to mark the Comhairle’s 50th Anniversary in May next year. In addition to looking forward, there are many significant events for us to look back on. I would encourage anyone who is keen to support the production of this book, to contribute towards the costs.”
