The email includes a link to a website which closely resembles the DVLA website, where payment options are available.
Comhairle nan Eilan Siar’s Trading Standards Service said:
“If you receive an email from the DVLA, stating that you have missed a car tax payment and asking you to follow a link to enter your bank information, delete it. This is a scam, which could result in your bank account being emptied. The DVLA will not request this type of information or notify you of a missed payment by email.”
You can check your vehicle’s tax and MOT status on the DVLA website.
Anyone suspecting a scam should report it, by contacting Advice Direct Scotland on 0808 8164 6000 or by using one of the options on their Contact page.
