The HGV Market Readiness Fund, launched on 9 July 2025, will provide £2 million in support to the HGV sector over the next year. The initiative is designed to ease the transition to zero-emission vehicles, helping reduce road freight emissions while supporting economic growth through sustainable investment in transport infrastructure.
The fund is split into two key strands:
- SME Fleet Analysis Support (£1 million) – Aimed at helping small and micro-HGV fleet operators in Scotland understand their decarbonisation options and develop clear transition pathways.
- HGV Consortium Builder (£1 million) – Designed to foster collaboration between operators, manufacturers, financiers, and charge point providers to build a strong business case for investing in zero-emission HGVs and related infrastructure.
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar is particularly keen to ensure that haulage companies across the Western Isles, especially SMEs, are aware of and can benefit from this support.
Councillor Uisdean Robertson, Chair of Transportation and Infrastructure, said:
"This is an opportunity for HGV operators in the Western Isles to look at how they might begin or accelerate their transition to low-emission vehicles. I would encourage local haulage companies to explore this fund and see if it could support their decarbonisation plans. With the right support, we can help ensure our local economy remains resilient while contributing to national climate goals."
