Comment on a Planning Application

Information on how to comment on a planning application

Please read the guidance below and the overarching Privacy Statement of Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, prior to submitting a comment.

Guidance on the handling of data submitted by parties making a Planning Representation

Representations should be submitted within 14 days* of the advertised date or if neighbour notified within 21 days* of the date on any neighbour notice. (*30 days if the application is an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) application).

Representations can be submitted via the planning portal, by email to planning.representations@cne-siar.gov.uk or in writing to the postal address below. Please note that representations received by email or post may take some time to be listed on the Public Access portal as they require to be added to the case management system.

Online

Contributors are encouraged to submit comments via the online planning portal. This is the quickest and easiest way to comment on a planning application. You will need to register to submit comments. Once registered, you can then comment on applications, save details of searches you have made and track any applications which interests you. By doing this you will receive notification of any change made to any applications that you are tracking.

By email

Representations or any attachments to a representation can be sent by email to planning.representations@cne-siar.gov.uk. You require to include your name and full postal address and identify the planning application reference number and the address of the proposed development to which your representation relates.

By post

Representations can be sent by post to the address below. You require to include your name and full postal address and identify the planning application reference number and the address of the proposed development to which your representation relates.

To be considered a valid representation, all submissions must contain the name, full postal address of the person submitting the representation and should only raise matters that are relevant to planning. Matters relevant to planning are termed ‘Material Considerations’. The Planning Advisory Service has published independent guidance on Material Considerations.

Planning officers cannot enter into detailed correspondence or discussions with individual contributors on representations made or questions posed. The planning assessment will consider all relevant planning matters and be documented in a 'Report on Handling' of the application.

All representations received are a matter of public record and are collated for review together with all other relevant planning matters, at the end of the statutory consultation period. Contributors are respectfully requested to refrain from submitting personal, malicious or defamatory comments.
