Tips for reducing our impact on biodiversity – Advice for Comhairle Staff and Tenants
We all make an impact on the world we live in through the resources we use e.g., energy, water, food and how we deal with the waster we produce. Equally we can all help reduce the impacts we have on biodiversity and as Comhairle employees we all have a duty to use energy responsibly.
A booklet has been produced for Comhairle staff and tenants to provide advice on ways of helping reduce our impact on biodiversity. This covers the following issues:
- Waste – we can all help create a Greener Outer Hebrides by Reducing, Reusing and Recycling more.
- Energy use – Remember to Turn it down or Turn it off when not in use.
- Purchase and use of materials – practical solutions that cost nothing or little to implement.
- Grounds and gardens – ideas for improving your outdoor space whether it’s a back garden, school grounds or play area.
The provision of targeted, practical biodiversity guidance is an action in the Comhairle’s Biodiversity Duty Delivery Plan (1.0MB) (Opens in a new window or downloads a file) for the period 2012-2014.
Making small changes to the way we do things as suggested in the booklet will help minimise the adverse effect of waste disposal and energy consumption on the environment which is one of the key objectives of the Comhairle’s Corporate Strategy 2012 – 2017.
