Young Persons National Entitlement Card
The Young Person’s National Entitlement Card (NEC), also known as the Young Scot Card, is available free of charge to everyone aged 11-26 living in Scotland.
A young scot card provides young people with:
- a recognised proof of age (Opens in a new window or downloads a file) card (as part of the accredited PASS national proof of age card scheme).
- discounts (Opens in a new window or downloads a file) locally across Scotland and online - including 10% of at the Co-op.
- access to Young Scot Rewards (Opens in a new window or downloads a file).
- opportunities to participate and be heard through the new #YSHive (Opens in a new window or downloads a file).
Young people aged 16, 17 or 18 (or 19-25 and a full time volunteer) can get discounted travel on public transport, both locally and on the mainland, using the Young Scot card.
Young people aged 16-18 living on the Scottish islands are also entitled to 4 free ferry vouchers per year. These are sent to your home address when you turn 16 and ferry vouchers are printed with your photograph and your Young Scot NEC number.
In order to access travel discounts and other benefits, you must have a Young Scot Card with a pink strip and an up-to-date photograph.

School pupils aged 11+ can get a Young Scot application from the school office in all secondary schools. Primary pupils will receive Young Scot applications in P7.
