Wednesday, 22 August 2018Question
The Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights is undertaking research into the number of BME teachers in Scottish schools. As part of this research, we are requesting the following information:
- The number of applications for teaching posts within the Council area, broken down by ethnic group for the each year covering 2012-present
- The number of shortlisted candidates for teaching posts within the Council area, broken down by ethnic group for each year covering 2012- present
- The number of appointed candidates for teaching posts within the Council area, broken down by ethnic group for each year covering 2012- present
- The number of individuals in teaching posts employed within the Council area, broken down by ethnic group for each year covering 2012- present
- The number of applications for promoted teaching posts within the Council area, broken down by ethnic group for the years covering 2012- present
- The number of shortlisted candidates for promoted teaching posts within the Council area, broken down by ethnic group for the years covering 2012- present
- The number of appointed candidates for promoted teaching posts within the Council area, broken down by ethnic group for the years covering 2012- present
- The number of individuals in teaching posts who have left their position within the Council area, broken down by ethnic group for the years covering 2012- present
In this request, by ‘teaching posts’ we mean all posts open to qualified teachers, including all promoted posts such as deputy and head teachers. We request that the information provided be broken down by ethnic group in the following manner:
- All white groups
- All non-white groups
- All unknown or not specified
Additionally, within these figures, wherever possible, we request disaggregation by ethnicity in line with the broad census categories from the 2011 Scottish Census, as well as separate data for ‘unknown’ and ‘not disclosed.’ Ideally, we would prefer this information by school year. However, where this is not possible, please provide the information in whichever annual format is utilised by the Education Authority, whether by calendar year or another format.
Answer
Please see the information requested below and attached.
1. The data has been requested from 2012 however we cannot access the recruitment data prior to 2015 as the reports run from the old recruitment portal which is no longer available.
2. It is not possible to extract the data re shortlisted candidates so for questions 2 and 6 the information is not available.
