Question

Here are the questions:

-How many schools does your authority have, please breakdown by primary, secondary and special school?

-When all posts are filled how many headteachers does your authority employ, please breakdown by primary, secondary and special school?

-How many headteacher posts do you have vacant currently, again please breakdown by primary secondary and special school?

-How long have you been trying to fill these headteacher posts? Please give the name of the school and the period of time you have been trying to recruit a headteacher for.

-How many headteachers in your authority are responsible for running more than one school?

-Can you please give details of the number of schools in each “shared headship” grouping and the names of the schools? Can you also make it clear for each grouping of schools if these arrangements are permanent or temporary?

-For each of the temporary shared headship arrangements could you please specify how long this arrangement has been in place?

-If your authority has one or more temporary shared headships can you please explain the reasons for this?

-Does your authority have any plans to increase the number of headteachers in charge of more than one school, or make changes to the management structure in schools, or the way schools are managed? If so, can you please give details and provide a link to any relevant council papers?

-Any additional comments on shared headship or how easy/difficult it is to recruit headteachers?

Recorded information is not held however there is anecdotal evidence which suggests that recruitment to Headteacher posts in smaller, rural schools is more challenging with posts being advertised more than once before an appointment can be made.
