Consumer and Environmental Services Update

The Comhairle’s Environmental Health and Trading Standards service is still operational and responding to service requests from businesses and the public whilst ensuring the latest government guidelines are being followed. We are committed to meet statutory regulations and will continue to carry out duties to protect public health, public safety and animal welfare at this time.

In line with national advice and guidelines and in common with other office-based staff of the Comhairle, Consumer & Environmental Services staff are now working from home.  Whilst this raises challenges and change for us all, we nevertheless aim to keep to services operational.

Please contact us through the email addresses and phone numbers below. Email is the preferred method of contact for this period. The phone numbers for both Balivanich and Stornoway still work, however go to voice mail.  Please leave a message and someone will get back to you as soon as possible.

Some officers do not have work mobile phones and therefore return of business calls from their personal mobiles is at their discretion. They are advised to use the prefix of 141 to protect their personal number and therefore any call will appear on your phone as ‘No Caller ID’.  Please include your name and telephone number in all calls/emails.

Inspections and Complaint Investigations 

The Health Protection (Coronavirus) (Restrictions) (Scotland) Regulations 2020 - prohibit any person from leaving the place they are living without a reasonable excuse, and ban public gatherings of more than two people. 

We aim to investigate all complaints however inspections are restricted and each visit will be assessed in line with the current social distancing guidelines and legislation.

We hope to maintain our services as near normal as possible and appreciate your patience and co-operation whilst these special restrictions are in place.
