We asked if the public were in acceptance of a proposal to make the (A858 GARYNAHINE, CALLANISH & BREASCLETE, ISLE OF LEWIS) (40MPH SPEED LIMIT) ORDER 2017
The new order will introduce a 40mph speed limit on the A858 through the villages of Garynahine, Callanish and Breasclete.
There were no objections to the proposal following a 4 week consultation period.

The reason for implementing this order is in the interests of road safety.
The area has a number of community activities which attract both traffic and pedestrians. This includes a School, Church, Factory and a Community Centre.
At present the national speed limit applies through these villages. The proposal is to introduce a 40mph speed limit through the villages of Garynahine, Callanish & Breasclete. In line with the Comhairle’s speed limit policy, following the introduction of a 40mph speed limit, the side roads affected will be reduced to a 30mph limit.
Why We Are Consulting
Any person wishing to object to the proposed Order should send details in writing to Traffic-Order-Consultations@cne-siar.gov.uk or in hard copy to the Chief Executive, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Council Offices, Sandwick Road, Stornoway, HS1 2BW to be received no later than 4pm, Friday 14th July 2017. Objections should state the full name and address of the objector, the Order to which they relate and the grounds on which they are made.
What Happens Next
The proposal will be made in to a Traffic Regulation Order, advertised and the road signage changed to suit. Following this the revised speed limits will come in to operation.
