The proposal to extend existing 40mph speed limits between Liniclate and Creagorry, would have the effect of creating a speed limit with an overall length of 2.8km. Following notices in the local press there was an opportunity for objections to be submitted to the Comhairle.
There were no objections to the proposal following a 4 week consultation period.
A Traffic Regulation Order was made, advertised and the road signage changed to suit the new 40mph speed limit.

We asked if the public were in acceptance of a proposal to make the: (B892 Uachar To Creagorry Via Balivanich And A865 Lochmaddy To Lochboisdale Via Sollas) (40mph Speed Limit) Order 2019.
The reason for implementing this order is in the interests of road safety. A 40mph speed limit was introduced in Creagorry in 1997 with a similar speed limit made in Lionacleit, adjacent to the school, in 2005.
This left a section of road between both limits where the national speed limit applied.
Concerns had been raised by the Community regarding traffic speeds in this area and there had been some Road Traffic Collisions near the bends at Strome Cottages.
The new limit will close the gap between both speed limits allowing enforcement in this area and encourage drivers to approach this section of road at an appropriate speed
Why We Are Consulting
Any person wishing to object to the proposed Order should send details in writing to Traffic-Order-Consultations@cne-siar.gov.uk or in hard copy to the Chief Executive, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar, Council Offices, Sandwick Road, Stornoway, HS1 2BW to be received no later than 4pm, Friday 2nd August 2019. Objections should state the full name and address of the objector, the Order to which they relate and the grounds on which they are made.
What Happens Next
The proposal will be made in to a Traffic Regulation Order, advertised and the road signage changed to suit. Following this the revised speed limits will come in to operation.
