The results of the survey and the Community Conversations helped to influence the decision of the Comhairle to award bus contracts that provided best value rather than cheapest price.
Some service frequencies were reduced. This was to reduce service costs but still retain important bus travel service options.

At the Community Conversations held during April/May 2019, it was agreed that further Community Conversations would be scheduled once the transport tender contracts were returned and evaluated.
The Comhairle held a Members’ Seminar on Thursday 23rd May 2019 to consider the tender outcomes and the financial and service implications. The Comhairle, in order to meet its service redesign implementation date, will meet on Wednesday 26th June 2019 to award the contracts.
Why We Are Consulting
Comhairle nan Eilean Siar hosted a series of Community Engagement Events in 2018 focussing on a radical programme of Service Redesign. The Comhairle is committed to work with communities and others to find new ways to protect public services.
This process of community engagement and empowerment is aimed at identifying those issues that are important to local communities, in addition to investigating ways that could reduce the demand for some services, identify other services that could be more efficiently provided by communities, and agree which services could be changed.
In order that all communities affected have an opportunity to express their views and have them considered by the Comhairle at its meeting on 26th June 2019, a series of Community Conversations on Transport Services Redesign will be held on the 24th and 25th of June 2019 and all members of the community are welcome to attend.

It is important that people use the current consultation process to give us their views, which will be considered by the Comhairle at its meeting on 26th June 2019.
