Sports Centre - On Arrival

Please maintain social distancing.

Please confirm your booking with staff at Reception – this will help us support the ‘Test and Protect' system. Remember at this stage, a Family Swim session is for members of the same household, living at the same address.

Members of staff will be present as usual to help out but we would be grateful if you would respect their space and maintain social distancing at all times.

Gym Sessions are bookable as one Cardio and one Weights only, you cannot book for both on the same day.

What Else Is On

We have online classes available to book on to, these classes are on every Tuesday and Thursday 5.30pm-6pm.  For further information on these classes you can e-mail isladminteam@cne-siar.gov.uk.

Getting back in the Pool at ISH!

Lane Swimming

A Slow, Medium and Fast lane is available with a maximum of four swimmers in a lane.  Please try to choose a lane that is appropriate to your level of swimming ability and speed, as it will not be possible to change lanes if the session is full.  The cost will be £2 for adults and £1 for Concessions.  These sessions are for Over 16s.

Family Swimming

There will be three ‘pods’ in the Pool – two for families with pre-school children and shallower water depth, and one ‘pod’ at the deep end for families with older children who are more competent swimmers.  There must be a minimum of one adult and one child in each booking.  The cost is £5 per session and £3 concession, up to a maximum of two adults and four children from the same household.

Pool - What to Expect on Your Visit

Before You Arrive

Please arrive for your swim pre-showered and ‘beach ready’ with your swimwear on, ready to go.

Please bring the minimum of belongings with you and if you do need to use a locker, you will notice that we have removed a number of keys to help maintain social distancing.  We would encourage customers not to bring valuables with them and leave belongings in the cubicle where possible.

On Arrival

Please follow our queuing system outside and maintain social distancing.

Please confirm your booking with staff at Reception – this will help us support the ‘Test and Protect' system. Remember at this stage, a Family Swim session is for members of the same household, living at the same address.

There will be one Male and one Female toilet available – these will be the ones nearest the entrance to the Pool.

Once in the Changing Village you will be directed to cubicles and then, depending on what session is on, directed to your zone choice shallow/deep or your lane choice – Slow, Medium or Fast.

If you are lane swimming, there will be clearly marked signs indicating the lane which you will have booked – Slow, Medium or Fast. Please stick to this lane. However, it may be beneficial for customers to move lanes during the session to maximise the enjoyment of all swimmers, but only if space allows.  Please work with the Lifeguards and follow their guidance.

Once changed, make your way to the Pool and the designated lane.

There will be Lane Etiquette signs clearly displayed in each cubicle. Please follow this guidance to help everyone get the most out of their swim.

If you have booked a family swim, there will be three sections in the pool – two for families with pre-school children and one for families with older children. Please follow the Lifeguards' instructions and they will show you which area of the pool is yours!  We won't be able to loan armbands and goggles as normal but we will have a limited stock for sale.

Lifeguards will be present as usual but we would be grateful if you would respect their space and maintain social distancing at all times.  They will follow nationally agreed protocols should an incident occur, or first aid be required.

After your swim

Lifeguards will let you know when the session is ending.  There will only be a very brief ‘rinse’ shower available and where possible, we would be grateful if customers could shower at home to prevent delays.  If we are not able to move customers through the Changing Village promptly, we may have to reduce the session time in order to allow staff to complete their cleaning protocols.  We don’t want this to happen obviously!

COVID-19 Lane Swimming Etiquette

To ensure that everyone gets the maximum enjoyment out of their lane swimming session, please help everyone by following these guidelines:

  • Please follow the Lifeguards’ instructions for entering and exiting the pool
  • Only swim in the lane you have booked
  • Swim in single file, and in the direction shown by the sign
  • Please DO NOT OVERTAKE other swimmers
  • Before pushing off please check to see if a faster swimmer is approaching the wall.  Let them pass by moving to the corner of the lane and turning your head away
  • If you are continually being passed please consider choosing a different lane next time you book
  • DO NOT CHANGE LANES without talking to a Lifeguard first.  It may not be possible to accommodate you in another lane during your booked time slot if the session is full
  • If you bring your own equipment please rinse it after use in the chlorinated pool water
  • Please refrain from swimming Back Stroke and Butterfly
  • If you need to rest please move to a corner of the lane
  • Please maintain social distancing at all times, and keep conversation to a minimum.
  • Any questions or problems, please ask a Lifeguard.

Gym - What to Expect on Your Visit

Here is some customer information around the reopening of gym facilities at Harris Sports Centre.  These will be updated in line with the latest guidance:-

The Gym is back in operation at ISH.

Slots will be 40 mins for Cardio and Strength sessions; there will be 1 slot available for Cardio training and 1 for Strength training.  To ensure user numbers are kept to a safe level, it won’t be possible to move from Cardio to Strength Training within the same session.

The equipment has been moved to make sure social distancing guidelines are being followed.

Please come ready to train with the minimum of belongings and if you do need to use a locker, you will notice that we have removed a number of keys to enforce social distancing.

Please bring your own water as drinking fountains will not be available.

It won’t be possible to take a towel into the gym – there will be a plentiful supply of paper tissue available.

Changing rooms and showers are currently not accessible.

There will be a single Male and Female toilet available – we would ask customers to make sure that only one user is in the toilet area at a time; even though there may be more than one cubicle etc in the space to maintain social distancing.

Please wipe all the equipment that you touch and use during your session – cleaning materials will be provided

There are hand sanitising stations around the gym area – please make use of them.

You will notice additional cleaning staff while using the area to help keep equipment hygienic.

If you have any further questions or problems, please ask a member of staff, phone ISH on 01859502944, or send us a Facebook message (Opens in a new window or downloads a file) at The Harris Sports Centre Facebook page.
