Stornoway Primary Closure – Alternative Arrangements
Following the incidence of vandalism at Stornoway Primary, extensive damage was caused to large parts of the school. Since its discovery on Saturday, the school team, Comhairle staff and contractors have been working tirelessly to try to reinstate the areas that were damaged and get the school ready for operation at the start of term.
Whilst it’s been possible to make ready all the areas and rooms to be used by pupils and staff, the damage to the plant room and heating systems has been major and contractors have been unable to reinstate heating and hot water to the school or nursery building in time for Wednesday. As a result, the following alternative arrangements are in place.
Stornoway Primary Pupils
All children of key workers and vulnerable pupils expecting to attend at Stornoway Primary tomorrow are now to report to the Nicolson Institute, where arrangements have been made to accommodate them there. This includes school transport and meal provision. We expect heating to be restored to the Primary school area by Thursday and will update parents.
Stornoway Primary Nursery (3-5)
The provision for key workers and vulnerable pupils at nursery has moved to Laxdale nursery for the remainder of this week. They expect to be able to return to Stornoway Primary Nursery by Monday.
Stornoway Childcare Centre (0-3)
Provision had been made to move children back to the old childcare centre building but separate heating issues has meant this is not possible. Childcare centre provision will be closed tomorrow and it is hoped that they will be able to return to attendance at their new playrooms on Thursday.
We would like to thank the staff of Stornoway Primary, Comhairle building and technical staff, contractors and Police Scotland for all their work in addressing the vandalism and working to ensure the school can open this week.
