Comhairle again urges free ferry travel for young people

Commenting on the Transport Minister’s announcement on free bus travel for under 22s, Comhairle nan Eilean Siar’s Chairman of Transportation and Infrastructure, Cllr Uisdean Robertson, said:

“The introduction of free bus travel for under 22s is very welcome. The Minister rightly states that ‘Reducing barriers created by transport costs is one really positive action we can take.’ So we would strongly suggest, once again, that free travel for under 22s be extended to ferry travel. The Minister, again rightly, highlights that ‘young people have been disproportionately impacted as a result of the Covid-19 pandemic’.

“Don’t young people in the Islands who have also been disproportionately impacted, deserve the same consideration as their peers on the mainland?”
