National Developments: Cruise Ship Levy Consultation

The Scottish Government has launched a consultation on the potential introduction of a local authority cruise ship levy (June 2025). This seeks views on whether local authorities should be empowered to apply a levy on cruise ship visits, with revenues reinvested into local communities and infrastructure.

Comhairle nan Eilean Siar has submitted a formal response to this consultation, reiterating its preference for a Point of Entry Levy model as a potentially fairer and more adaptable solution for island communities.
