Lauren holds two Master’s degrees in Music, including one from the Royal Academy of Music in London as well as a degree in physics. She has specialised in vocal performance, and choral ensemble, and brings with her a wealth of experience in both teaching and performance.
A former pupil of Laxdale School and The Nicolson Institute, Lauren was educated through the medium of Gaelic and is now returning to the islands to share her skills and passion for Gaelic singing with a new generation of pupils. In her role, Lauren will work with schools to inspire and support children and young people through traditional and contemporary Gaelic song, strengthening language learning, developing musical talent, and enriching the Gaelic ethos across education in the Western Isles.
Evelyn Coull MacLeod, Gaelic Education Manager, said:
“We are delighted to welcome Lauren to this important role. Gaelic song is central to our culture and identity, and through her expertise and enthusiasm, Lauren will help inspire our young people and strengthen Gaelic within our schools and communities.”
Lauren Macleod added: “It is a privilege to return home to the island and to take up this role. Gaelic song has always been close to my heart, and I look forward to sharing that passion with pupils and helping to keep our music and language alive for future generations.”
