“You will grow up loved, safe and respected”.
The Independent Care Review was carried out over 3 years to hear from care experienced children about their experiences and what needed to change. In 2020, the Independent Care Review set out their findings - you can read more about 'The Promise' on The Promise Scotland website.
How we are supporting the implementation of The Promise in the Western Isles:
- Our Integrated Children’s Services Plan 2023-2026 was developed following the Hebridean Year of Care (HYOC),
- Our MSYPs are part of the Children and Young People Planning Partnership (CYPPP) to raise the voices of young people in the Western Isles to those who can make a difference,
- Early intervention and prevention services are being developed in line with The Promise to reduce the number of children and young people becoming care experienced,
- A Promise Champions group has been established to feed into future service planning and ensure the voices of children and young people with care experience are meaningfully represented to the CYPPP,
- We have developed and opened Keith Street house to provide supported living accommodation to care experienced and vulnerable young people,
- Continuing Care arrangements are in place
- We have increased CAMHS support for care experienced children and young people until age 25,
- We have developed education policies aimed at reducing exclusion for children and young people with care experience
We know we have much more to do to keep the promise as we are determined to improve the outcomes for care experienced children and young people.
